I cannot take credit for this delicious snack, but it has been a party staple ever since our dear friend Hayley (who happens to be a professional pastry chef), brought these to our home several years ago. We have been hooked ever since. And these are so easy to make, you must give them a try. They could be considered a distant cousin to that gaggingly-sweet mall-staple – the cinnamon-sugar almond, but these are definitely healthier, as well as having that lovely balance of spicy-salty-sweet.
Hayley’s Honey Spiced Almonds
6 servings
4 Weight Watchers Points (approx. 1/4 cup)
1 1/2 cups raw almonds
1 T honey
1 1/2 tsp garam masala
salt to taste
Preheat oven to 350.
Place almonds on a cookie sheet, and pop in the oven. Set the timer for 10 minutes. Pull almonds from the oven, and drizzle honey over all of the almonds – stir, ensuring that all of the almonds get a thin skim of honey. Sprinkle the salt and garam masala over the almonds and stir thoroughly to ensure that all of the almonds get some spice on them. Put almonds back in the oven, and bake for another 6 minutes. Remove, and let cool. The honey coating will harden once cool. Store cool almonds in an air-tight container.

This sounds like a great snack!I am not familiar with “garam masala.” What is its origin and where can I find it??
Great question! Garam Masala is a mixture of spices used in Indian cooking. You can get it at The Spice House (link on main blog page), or an Indian Grocery, if you’ve got one nearby. Much like other curries, every shop will have their own blend of garam masala, so they’ll vary a bit in the blend.
I actually found it at the regular grocery store. Mine has cumin, pepper, cinnamon, cloves, coriander, and cardamom.
